SisTheology

SisTheology, coined by Rev. Dr. Toya Richards, examines how black women claim and re-claim their place as “fearfully and wonderfully made”[1] creations of God by tapping into their divine power, and then combining it with a supportive sisterhood they establish for themselves. It also studies how to develop a counter-cultural set of beliefs and spiritual principles/practices that black women can utilize and prioritize in order to remain restored and connected to divine power for the rest of their lives.

[1] Ps. 139: 14 NRSV.

SisTheology is the result of doctoral research done by the Rev. Dr. Toya Richards. It sprung up from a desire to answer the overall research question: How has the impact of prolonged racism and white supremacy affected the psyches of black woman living in South Minneapolis and their sense of being worthy and vital members of humanity, and what do they need to thrive and sustain themselves for the long haul?
